This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
