The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
