Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande at Movie Premiere Barred from Singapore
An Australian man who vaulted past a barrier and reached for Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.
The individual, aged 26, was handed a penalty to more than a week in prison for causing a public disturbance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority stated to Singaporean press.
He forced his way through camera crews and charged at the celebrity, who was attending the Asian premier for the musical adaptation on 13 November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
He has a background of disrupting concerts and star-studded occasions, including jumping on stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in the past June.
The occurrence sparked outrage in Singapore, with numerous people accusing him of re-traumatising Grande.
The celebrity has spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist bombing at her show in Manchester in spring of 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 people and injured hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the movie's debut on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a another effort to jump the barricades. Event security intercepted him and pinned him down.
He then uploaded video clips appreciating the celebrity for allowing his presence and said he was "at liberty."
Law enforcement took him into custody the following day and charged him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Presiding Judge the magistrate was cited by media reports as stating that the man sought attention, adding that he was wrong to think he would not face any penalties.
The actress has not spoken about the incident.
Erivo mentioned the event to the press, stating that she "just wanted to ensure my co-star was protected."
"I'm sure he didn't mean us injury, but you can't predict with those things, and I sought to confirm that she was fine. That was my immediate response," she said.
