Rybakina won the biggest prize in women's tennis all time by beating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in two sets at the championship.

Rybakina delivered a impressive performance to defeat four-times major champion Sabalenka 6-3 7-6 (7-0) in the host country.

Since both players came through the tournament undefeated, the prize money on offer was a record-breaking £3.98 million – the highest prize offering in WTA the sport's history.

The reward exceeds the £3.74 million the Belarusian won for claiming the New York major, which was the highest-paying major tournament in 2025.

"It's been an incredible week," said Rybakina.

"I honestly couldn't have predicted this outcome so to go so far was just incredible."

"I want to say praise to Aryna for being number one for a second year in a row, it's an outstanding accomplishment."

Rybakina, who was the world number six, hit sixteen winners during a commanding first-set performance.

Rybakina fended off a couple of chances before winning every point in the sixth game to go a break up and held her serve to secure the opening set.

As the second set progressed, Sabalenka defended two break points at 4-4 to swing the momentum in her favour.

But, having worked so hard to upset Rybakina's rhythm, the top seed let her opponent off the hook by wasting a pair of set points in the following game to tie the second set at 5-5.

Her inability to level the match impacted her tiebreak play, with Rybakina winning all seven points to win the championship.

The victory, her sixth triumph over her rival, means she will move up one spot in the WTA rankings to number five in the world.

A distraught Sabalenka appeared to be in tears as she met with her coaching team shortly after the final.

"It was not the best performance from me today but Elena you were certainly the better player," the Belarusian addressed the crowd.

"You really overpowered me on court. I'm pleased to see you play your best tennis. Celebrate this stunning trophy."
